Woman dead, husband and child injured in boat crash on Bayou Sara: ALEA

Officials with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency have released more information about a boat crash that left one woman dead and two others injured.

According to ALEA, 27-year-old Brittney Sherman of Wilmer was killed when the boat she was a passenger in hit another boat, which was being operated by a 52-year-old Wilmer man.

Officials said Brittney’s husband, 30-year-old Cody Sherman, was also a passenger in the boat. He and a 4-year-old were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

A 19-year-old Lucedale man was operating the boat that the family was in at the time of the crash.

Neither the 19-year-old nor the 52-year-old operator of the other boat was injured during the crash.

Brittney’s body was found on June 16, just before 11 a.m., about 100 yards from where she fell into the water.

The crash happened around 5:50 p.m. on Sunday, June 15.

Several agencies, including the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Daphne Search and Rescue, and Mobile Police, searched for Sherman and finally located her body just after 1 p.m. Monday near Steele Creek, according to officials.

“In total, we had seven partnering agencies out here assisting us through today,” Mobile Police Spokesman Blake Brown said.

ALEA is leading the investigation to find out why the two boats collided.
