Woman dead, another arrested after early morning shooting in Crown Point

MARRERO, La. (WVUE) – A woman was shot and killed early Saturday morning in Crown Point, and another woman has been arrested in connection with the fatal incident, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say the shooting happened just before 5 a.m. in the 5200 block of Sharpe Road. When deputies arrived, they found two women suffering from gunshot wounds: the victim, who died at the scene, and 41-year-old Sarah Duffy of Marrero.

Investigators believe the women were part of a group that had gone fishing earlier that morning. At some point, Duffy and the victim got into a physical altercation that paused briefly before continuing inside Duffy’s vehicle. During the struggle inside the car, a handgun was drawn. The gun was fired twice, one bullet struck the victim in the head, and the other hit Duffy in the leg.

Duffy was treated at a nearby hospital and later released. She was then booked into the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on a charge of manslaughter.

The name of the victim has not been released, and no further details are available at this time.
