The intersection of Seventh and Missouri avenues in Phoenix was shut down for hours due to a water main break, according to the Phoenix Water Services Department.
Phoenix Water Services crews were in the process of isolating the break to stop water flow and begin initial repairs after an 8-inch water main ruptured, said spokesperson Michael Gertzman.
The intersection was closed in all directions for safety reasons and will remain closed until a second crew arrives to assess the site, according to Gertzman.
“Once the technicians can visually confirm underground roadway stability, they will evaluate the extent of the damage and adjust the barricades as needed,” said Gertzman.
The estimated repair time was about 6 hours, but staff were expected to revisit the traffic control setup within the next 2 to 3 hours, according to Gertzman.
“We appreciate the public’s patience and encourage drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes,” Gertzman said.
