VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) – A 19-year-old is behind bars and accused of robbing victims at gunpoint whom he connected with on Facebook Marketplace, according to a Valdosta Police Department press release.
About a week ago, Valdosta Police officers responded to Spanish Mission Apartments after a citizen called 911 to report that he had been robbed at gunpoint.
Lisa Figueroa lives in the apartment complex. She said property management is doing what they can to respond to crime, but she’s buying a home and moving to a new location.
“Well, that’s not the first time I’ve heard there’s been kids walking around with guns,” Figueroa said. “If I don’t feel safe where I’m at, it’s time to go.”
For buyers and sellers on Facebook Marketplace, like Dolores Perry, they say the arrest is a reminder to take extra precautions when planning meetups.
I’m always very precautious, and I try to park near the exits or close to everything where it is lit. And I always shop between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. If it’s after 6 p.m. or it’s dark, they can’t do any business with me,” Perry said.
