Unlicensed, intoxicated driver arrested after driving 105 mph, UHP says

GREEN RIVER, Emery County — A Colorado man was arrested Monday night for allegedly driving over 100 mph with a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit.

Cody James Schurr, 24, was booked into the Emery County Jail for investigation of DUI, speeding over 100 mph, driving on a suspended license and having an open container of alcohol in the car.

A Utah Highway Patrol trooper spotted Schurr on state Route 24 Monday about 8:15 p.m. traveling at 105 mph, a police booking affidavit states.

“The driver gave me a valid Colorado identification card and stated he did not have a license. I later found that the driver’s license had been revoked for an alcohol offense. While I was at the window speaking with the driver, I could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle,” the arresting UHP trooper wrote.

“I noticed the driver’s speech was very slurred,” the trooper said in the affidavit. “I then conducted a portable breath test and it indicated positive for alcohol on the driver’s breath (with a reading of) 0.136%,” the affidavit alleges.

A subsequent test conducted at a UHP office showed a blood-alcohol content of 0.092%, according to the affidavit.

Schurr was previously convicted of DUI in 2021, according to troopers.
