New Delhi: A 22-year-old accountant working with a trading company staged a fake robbery and falsely claimed he had been stabbed by six robbers on a flyover in west Delhi’s Moti Nagar, police said on Friday. The accused and his accomplice, who helped execute the plan, have both been arrested.According to police, a call was received on June 13 reporting that the complainant, Subhash Chand, had been robbed near a flyover shortly after withdrawing Rs 13 lakh from a bank. “Chand alleged that six robbers arrived on three bikes, stabbed him with a knife, and fled with the money,” said Additional DCP (West) Sukant S. Ballabh. A case was registered and an investigation launched. However, CCTV analysis revealed no sign of suspicious bikes following Chand. Additionally, his injuries appeared superficial and inconsistent with a knife attack. During interrogation, he confessed to staging the incident and was subsequently arrested.“Chand admitted that he conspired with his friend, Vijaypal (26), to fake the robbery in order to recover money he had lost in gambling. He was under pressure to repay the amount,” said Addl. DCP Ballabh.Police said Chand had planned to withdraw the cash, hand it over to Vijaypal at Rajouri Garden Metro Station, and report a robbery to cover up the loss. Vijaypal then fled to his village with the money.A police team was dispatched to Bayal village in Haryana’s Mahendergarh district, where Vijaypal was arrested and the entire Rs 13 lakh recovered, police added.
