MUSCATINE, Iowa — An 18-year-old from Muscatine is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, after police say he intentionally hit a man on a bicycle during a hit-and-run incident.
Evan Lee Hernandez was arrested Tuesday in connection with the May 30 incident.
Police say Hernandez spent roughly 90 minutes that day driving around downtown Muscatine, harassing a man on a bike by yelling and throwing water bottles and fireworks at him.
Traffic camera footage captured the moment Hernandez struck the cyclist near East 6th Street and Mulberry Avenue. The victim was injured but is expected to recover. His current condition has not been released.
According to police, Hernandez’s vehicle had been circling the area and allegedly targeting three different individuals. He was taken into custody after admitting to driving the car seen in the video.
Hernandez is charged with three counts of attempted murder, three counts of going armed with intent, three counts of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, and reckless driving.
