Suspect in custody after shooting, car crash left 1 dead and 2 hospitalized on North Beltway in north Houston, police say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Houston police say a suspect tied to a car crash and a deadly shooting in north Houston has turned himself in.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers were dispatched to a crash about 1:30 p.m. along the North Beltway near John F. Kennedy Boulevard.

Police say they found two vehicles crashed and one person dead at the scene.

Police say they realized that person had also been shot. The drivers of both cars were taken to the hospital, according to authorities.

While officers were working that scene, they got a report of a shooting at an apartment complex along the Beltway. At that scene, police found signs of a shooting and connected it to the crash scene.

Police believe the shooting started when two men went to visit an ex-girlfriend to pick up some property, which led to a fight between them and the new boyfriend.

While the investigation was going on, police say the suspect turned himself in and is now in custody.
