A 34-year-old man was arrested on Monday morning in southern Athens, suspected of committing a series of robberies targeting store employees.
A 42-year-old man, alleged to have acted as his accomplice, was also arrested.
According to the police, the 34-year-old has been identified as the perpetrator of at least 11 robberies over the past month. The incidents targeted employees of convenience stores, kiosks, and pharmacies in the areas of Dafni, Neos Kosmos, Nea Smyrni, and Agios Dimitrios.
The investigation revealed that the suspect carried out the robberies either alone or in collaboration with the 42-year-old and, in some cases, with a woman who has also been identified and is currently wanted.
The crimes involved threats with a knife or the use of physical violence to steal cash.
During Monday’s operation to arrest the suspect, officers spotted the 42-year-old outside a residence and approached him for questioning.
Upon seeing the police, he began shouting toward the house in an apparent attempt to alert the 34-year-old, while denying knowledge of his whereabouts in an effort to impede the arrest.
A subsequent search of the residence led to the discovery and arrest of the 34-year-old. Police also confiscated clothing used in the robberies.
Both suspects have been referred to the competent prosecutor.
