A suspect who allegedly took $3000 in cash at gunpoint in Westminster didn’t get to keep it for very long.
Jose Luis Carrillo Gonzales, 50, of Westminster was arrested by Westminster police about three-and-one-half hours after he allegedly committed the robbery on Wednesday.
According to Commander Michael Harvey of the WPD, officers responded to a report of an Armed robbery in the area of the 6500 block of Westminster Boulevard at about 6:24 p.m.
The female victim told police a man armed with a black pistol demanded money from her and left the scene on foot with the cash.
Using video surveillance from a nearby business, detectives showed Gonzales leave the area and enter a white pickup truck. With the license plate number in hand, a search for the vehicle was launched in the area.
At about 10 p.m., officers found the unoccupied suspect vehicle in the area of Beach and Garden Grove boulevards. A short time later, Gonzales was spotted returning to the truck and driving away.
A traffic stop resulted in an arrest, with more than $2,000 in cash found in his possession.
He was arrested and booked into Orange County Jail for robbery and assault with a firearm.
