AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Drivers can expect some overnight lane closures in coming days on two local thoroughfares.
Bobby Jones Expressway
Overnight lane closures are required for crews to resurface Bobby Jones Expressway between Washington Road and Scott Nixon Memorial Drive.
The $1.2 million project will resurface this stretch for the first time since 2014.
On average, more than 40,000 vehicles travel this section of roadway in the busy commercial area.
To help reduce congestion, the work mostly won’t take place between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.
But drivers should expect frequent overnight lane closures in the coming weeks as crews work on this project.
The first closure will be from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Monday.
Workers will be in the roadway, so drivers should use caution, reduce their speed, stay alert and watch for workers while navigating the work zone.
Furys Ferry lane closures
Contractors next week will continue construction activities related to the roadway-widening project for Furys Ferry Road in Columbia County.
Weather permitting, the scheduled activities beginning Monday through Friday include:
- Temporary, intermittent lane closures on Furys Ferry at Hardy McManus Road. The lane closure will be nightly from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday and Tuesday.
- Temporary, intermittent lane closures on Furys Ferry between Three J Road and North Belair Road. The lane closures will be nightly from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday to Friday.
