DE PERE, Wis. – Officers shot and killed a person with a rifle early Saturday at a De Pere boat launch.
According to a news release from The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal investigation, dispatch received a report approximately 12:57 a.m. Saturday about someone armed with a rifle at the Perkofski Boat Launch in the City of De Pere.
Law enforcement officers from the De Pere Police Department, the Ashwaubenon Public Safety Department and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office responded to the boat launch.
When they arrived, law enforcement officers say they attempted negotiations with the subject.
But shortly after, the subject produced a rifle and law enforcement officers from the De Pere Police Department and Ashwaubenon Public Safety Department shot the person, according to the news release.
Law enforcement officers immediately rendered aid, but the subject was pronounced dead on scene.
Law enforcement officers were wearing body cameras during the incident.
The involved law enforcement officers will be placed on administrative leave, per agencies’ policies.
DCI is leading this investigation and is assisted by a DCI Crime Response
Specialist, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory. All involved law enforcement are fully cooperating with DCI during this investigation.
DCI is continuing to review evidence and determine the facts of this incident and will
turn over the investigative reports to the Brown County District Attorney’s office
when the investigation concludes.
