NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man on several charges of sex crimes involving youths.
Barry Janke, 66, of North Charleston, was arrested on Tuesday and is charged with one count of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, one count of criminal solicitation of a minor and one count of attempted dissemination of obscene material to a person under the age of 18, sheriff’s spokesperson Alexis Douglas says.

Affidavits show that after deputies conducted a search warrant at Janke’s home in the 3000 block of Meeting Street Road, they discovered that Janke possessed a file that contained a visual representation of a youth engaging in sexual activity or appearing in a state of explicit nudity.
Deputies also discovered that between June 6 and July 21, 2025, Janke made plans to travel to Ohio to pick up a person whom he believed was under the age of 18 and bring them to South Carolina to live with him in a romantic relationship. He also attempted to disseminate onscene material to a person he believed to be under the age of 18.
Janke is being held at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center on a $115,000 bond.
This incident was assisted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
