Patna: Panchayat rozgar sevak, Mumtaz Ahmad (38), who was stated to have been killed during a robbery at his home in Muzaffarpur district on July 7, was actually murdered by his wife, police said on Monday. Saba Firdaus, a civil service aspirant, who attempted these competitive examinations multiple times, confessed to killing her husband due to suspicions of his extramarital affair. Mumtaz was gruesomely killed as he suffered 17 stab wounds to his head, chest and back. The accused waited until her husband fell asleep before slitting his throat and inflicting multiple injuries. Saba was arrested, police said.According to the police, the crime, which occurred on July 7, was initially reported as a robbery but has now been revealed as a case of domestic violence turning fatal. Muzaffarpur SSP, Sushil Kumar, said, “The case took several turns during the investigation, with the accused repeatedly changing her statement. Initially, she claimed to discover her husband’s body after a power outage, then later she alleged that robbers committed the crime in her presence. However, the crime spot evidence, including a blood-soaked knife and the manner of entry into the house, pointed towards a planned conspiracy.”He said the crucial evidence, including a cellphone, was recovered based on the accused’s confession. CCTV footage showed activities until 1.30am on the day of murder, after which the DVR was deliberately damaged.The couple, who married in 2012 and had three children, reportedly had a troubled relationship. Saba claimed she faced physical abuse and feared for her life. A telling detail emerged when investigators found a message written on her room wall: “I accept defeat, but I will play a big game.”The SSP added that Saba was forwarded to jail after production in the court. The police will ensure filing of the chargesheet as soon as possible.
