HAVERSTRAW, NY — Police have made an arrest in connection to an armed robbery of a local business.
On June 25, shortly after 9 p.m., the Haverstraw Police Department officers responded to a business in the hamlet of Garnerville after receiving a report of an armed robbery.
After an investigation, Haverstraw police, with the assistance of other law enforcement partners, arrested 45-year-old Nelson Morales, of Cliffside Park, New Jersey.
Morales was taken into custody at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, in Orangetown. He has been charged with felony robbery, felony criminal possession of a weapon and felony criminal possession of a firearm.
“Haverstraw is a community of good, hardworking people,” Police Chief John Gould said. “Anyone who thinks they can come to our town and commit a crime should think again. We will not rest until those responsible are identified, located and brought to justice.”
Morales was arraigned in the Town of Haverstraw Justice Court, and was remanded to the Rockland County Correctional Facility pending further court proceedings.
“The Haverstraw Police Department would like to thank the New York State Police, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office, the Rockland County Intelligence Center and the FBI–Westchester Safe Streets Task Force for their invaluable assistance in bringing this investigation to a swift and safe resolution,” police officials said in a statement, announcing the arrest.
