LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) – A motorcycle rider has died following a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday at a roundabout in southwest aroundLawrence, officials said.

The crash was reported around 1 a.m. Wednesday at Clinton Parkway and Lake Pointe Drive.

Officials said that Lawrence police officers were notified of the crash when a passerby saw the victim lying on the south side of the roundabout’s island.

Officers arriving on the scene found a helmet nearby.

Medics with Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical who responded to the scene “quickly determined the man was deceased,” officials said.

Several members of the Lawrence Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit responded and spent the overnight hours collecting evidence.

Officers from the Accident Investigation Unit are “confident speed played a role in the crash,” officials said.

The victim is not from Kansas or Missouri and officers on Wednesdy morning to be sure all loved ones had been notified before the victim’s name is released.
