PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A man with a history of traffic violations is back behind bars after a reckless attempt to flee police ended in a crash and foot chase through a residential neighborhood.
According to the Port St. Lucie Police Department, 39-year-old Serge Nicolas was clocked driving 85 mph on Crosstown Parkway when he caught the attention of A PSLPD Traffic Officer. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, Nicolas — a documented habitual traffic offender — chose to flee instead.
While trying to escape, police said Nicolas caused a traffic crash and then abandoned his vehicle, running from the scene on foot.
His getaway didn’t last long. According to PSLPD, a witness who remained on scene and provided a description, and a swift response from multiple officers, Nicolas was spotted by an officer running toward a canal behind a home on Bywood Avenue.
Nicolas quickly taken into custody and transported to the St. Lucie County Jail.

Nicolas now faces a stack of charges, including:
- Driving While License Suspended (Habitual Offender)
- Fleeing and Eluding
- Resisting Without Violence
- Multiple traffic citations
