Man killed in stabbing, second person dead just a block away

Seattle Police are investigating a homicide in the SoDo neighborhood after a 55-year-old man was found stabbed to death inside a van on Monday evening.

Down the street, along 6th Avenue South, was a separate, large response by law enforcement to a call of a man found dead on a Sound Transit bus.

SPD Det. Eric Muñoz confirmed to KOMO News that these deaths just a couple of blocks from each other were not connected. Detectives were expected to stay on site for hours.

King County Sheriff’s Office deputies first went to the call of a 27-year-old man dead on the bus.

A Sound Transit spokesperson said the bus had finished trips for the day. The driver noticed a passenger was unresponsive, and the driver called for an ambulance.

Meanwhile, down the street around 6:20 p.m., a passerby waved down deputies in the area to tell them about a man stabbed in a white van near 6th Avenue and Massachusetts Street.

Muñoz said Seattle Fire Department crews attempted to revive the stabbing victim, but he died at the scene.

“We have detectives—they are essentially looking at possible video surveillance cameras, talking with witnesses who might know something,” Muñoz said. “They’re going to be conducting forensic analysis of the scene, collecting evidence, photographing things.”

Detectives are working to answer questions like what led to the stabbing and why it happened. It’s unclear if the victim lived in the van or what the vehicle was doing in the area with a stack of bicycles nearby.

As of Monday night, police do not have a stabbing suspect. Muñoz said police also do not have any physical description.

The SPD said it expects to know more about how the victim died over the next few days.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
