Man killed in deadly Lexington gas leak identified


LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A man killed in a gas leak at a Lexington apartment complex has been identified.

In a release, Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn identified the man as 62-year-old Samuel Gross of Lexington.

The Lexington Fire Department tells WKYT that they were called to the Oxford Circle Apartments, located off Oxford Circle and Versailles Road, just after 4 a.m. Monday for a patient with difficulty breathing.

When they arrived, they found a high level of flammable gas, methane and carbon monoxide at the complex, prompting an evacuation of over 30 units.

Gross’s cause of death remains under investigation.

Residents impacted by the leak are being allowed to gather at the Harvest Worship Center across the street from the complex.

Anyone living in the complex who has not received assistance should call the Lexington Fire Department at 859-231-5662.
