Man dies in head-on crash with semi in Mahnomen County


MAHNOMEN, MINN. (Valley News Live) – A Thief River Falls man is dead after a head-on crash in Mahnomen County.

According to the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office, on Wednesday, July 9, Norman County Sheriff’s deputies initiated a traffic stop in Norman County for a welfare check on a suicidal male.

33-year-old Jerry Redden fled from the deputies. The pursuit entered Mahnomen County on Highway 200 and went north on Highway 59.

Mahnomen County deputies and White Earth Police Department officers assisted in the pursuit. About 4 miles north of Mahnomen, Redden swerved into the left lane, colliding with a semi-truck head-on.

Redden died at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.

The crash is under investigation.
