OWASSO, OKLA. — One man was arrested for hiding inside a store when it closed and taking thousands of dollars worth of power tools, Owasso Police report.
Police responded around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, July 4, to an intrusion alarm at the Atwoods on 11510 N Garnett Road. Officers found a back door that was open and made sure no suspects were still inside.
Police noted several power tool boxes were lying around the aisles of the store, leading to the back door, indicating a theft or burglary had occurred. The employees were called to the store to give police access to the security footage.
Officers searched around the building while waiting for the employees to show up, and found a tarp full of power tools still in their boxes and a bicycle in a wooded area behind to store.
When store employees arrived, officials watched the security footage and saw a suspect hiding inside the store before it closed. Once the employees left, the suspect came out of his hiding spot and took multiple tools before leaving through the back exit of the building.
Police searched the area and found the suspect hiding in the Owasso Sportsplex in a locked porta potty. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old transient and tribal member Dustin Michael Justice, was taken into custody.
He was taken to the Owasso Municipal Jail for processing, then taken to the Rogers County Jail inside the Cherokee Nation.
More than $3,400 worth of Dewalt and Milwaukee power tools were recovered and returned to the store.
Justice faces second-degree burglary, possession of CDS (fentanyl), and possession of drug paraphernalia.
