FREETOWN, N.Y. (WBNG) — On July 15 and July 16, officers from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office received multiple reports of shots fired in the southern portion of the county.
An investigation into these reports revealed multiple instances of property damage, as well as shots being fired into residences.
Law enforcement determined that Michael J. Bellefleur Jr., 33 of Freetown, was responsible for firing shots in two incidents in the county.
Officers executed search warrants and recovered multiple weapons and ammunition from Bellefleur’s vehicle and residence.
Bellefleur was charged with attempted manslaughter in the second degree, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.
Bellefleur was arrested, arraigned, and remanded to the Cortland County Jail.
This investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are pending.
