Montgomery County deputies arrested a 21-year-old man accused of threatening to carry out a shooting at an elementary school Tuesday if authorities did not come to the school, Montgomery County Sheriff officials said.
The man called 911 around 2:45 p.m, saying that if they did not come to Deretchin Elementary in Montgomery County, he would shoot up the school, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. The man also made other alarming threats, the sheriff’s office said.
When deputies arrived, he was displaying weapons and hurting himself, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies used “less-lethal” measures to take the man into custody without a struggle, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies found he was in possession of a knife and an airsoft pistol. The man was also taken to an area hospital for a mental health evaluation. He was charged with a third degree felony of possessing a weapon where it was prohibited.
