WALDORF, Md. — Firefighters didn’t have far to go Wednesday morning, July 16, 2025, when a fire broke out in a commercial building next to their station on Old Washington Road.
Just before 8:45 a.m., Company 3 was dispatched to 3261 Old Washington Road after a report of smoke coming from the second floor of the building. The structure sits directly beside the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department.
Twelve volunteers from Company 3 responded immediately with multiple units, including Engine 31, Engine 33, and Squad 3. Although nothing was visible from the outside, firefighters found smoke and a strong odor inside once they reached the second floor.

Crews forced entry into Suite 2010, where they discovered a fire burning in a laundry basket filled with towels. The fire was quickly put out and contained to that area.
Additional crews helped ventilate the building and check for any remaining hazards. No injuries were reported, and the suite was unoccupied at the time.
The fire marshal responded to investigate. Units began clearing the scene shortly after 9:30 a.m., with Engine 31 and Chief 3 staying behind to assist.
