GATESVILLE, Texas (KWTX) – A knife-wielding man who told police officers to shoot him jumped into the path of an 18-wheeler, Gatesville police said.
It happened at about 9:20 p.m. on June 30 in the 4000 block of Texas Highway 36.
Police were initially called to investigate a domestic disturbance in the 4600 block of Highway 36.
“The establishment wanted the subject banned,” police wrote in a social media post.
An officer later spotted the man walking in the 4000 block of Highway 36.
“The subject brandished a knife telling officers to shoot him,” police said, adding the man “then stepped into the path of an 18-wheeler and was struck.”
The 35-year-old man was transported to Baylor Scott & White in Temple with unknown injuries, police said.
The vehicle that struck the man did not remain on scene.
An update on the man’s condition or a description of the apparent hit-and-run tractor trailer was not immediately provided by police.
Police remained at the scene late Monday night.
