MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa (KCRG) – The mother of an Iowa National Guard soldier learned of her son’s fatal crash on social media then returned to the platform for a heartbreaking goodbye message to her son.
SPC Marin Rose, 19, was killed in a crash last week. He was serving as a transportation driver with the 1133rd Transportation Company based in Iowa City.
His mother learned of the fatal crash after someone posted a picture of it in a social media group. Vickie Kautzky commented on the picture “Oh gawd, my son was coming home [from] there and I can’t get ahold, do you know what color car?????”

The next day, Kautzky posted a heartfelt message confirming her fears from the day before.
“Laying rumors and second guessing to rest. Yes, it was our son/brother/loved one who was involved in the fatal accident on Wednesday, north of Mt. Pleasant,” she wrote.
She went on to share her grief and memories of her son.
“If I could take his place, I would. I wish to not wake up if it meant he was here,” she wrote. “We, as a family, are numb. We have cried and laughed and cried together some more. No way in hell should a 19 year old with so much life and love…..omg, so much love…have that taken from him. From all of us.”
“My baby is never walking though our back porch doors again, he will never text me to venmo ”a few bucks till I get paid”, he will never be excitedly talking to me about his passion for the weather, and he will never wrap his arms around me again for the best hug….and if you were lucky enough to get one of those, well, you’d know it was the best hug ever.”
SPC Rose’s visitation and funeral will be Thursday in Fort Madison.
