ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) – An Indiana State Trooper is facing charges of theft, obstruction of justice, and fraud after a lengthy investigation. Indiana State Police say an investigation into allegations of theft against 39-year-old Andrew Kocsis began back in mid-October 2024. Charges were filed against Kocsis on Monday in St. Joseph County. According to charging documents, Kocsis is accused of trying to scam two different companies by falsely claiming he never received nearly $1,500 worth of speakers and other vehicle parts he had ordered “when in fact he had received them” in an attempt to get his money back. In the case of the $800 speakers — which he reportedly received a full refund for — investigators claim Kocsis altered, damaged and removed parts and identifying numbers to prevent them from being recognized. Kocsis has been an Indiana State Trooper since 2008 and was most recently assigned to the agency’s General Headquarters in Indianapolis. ISP says he will be placed on administrative leave without pay until the end of the criminal proceedings and an internal investigation. Kocsis has been given an initial court date of July 8.
