CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A crash has shut down I-485 in the Ballantyne area on Thursday morning.
The wreck happened shortly before 6 a.m. on the inner loop near the Johnston Road exit.
State transportation officials said all three lanes on the inner loop were closed. The crash was initially expected to clear by 8 a.m., but officials later updated that estimate to nearly 11 a.m.
Traffic maps showed backups stretching for more than two miles, back past Rea Road as of 6:45 a.m.
At least two vehicles appeared to have been involved in the wreck.
Medic said one person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
It is unclear what caused the crash.
