DOOLY COUNTY, Ga. — A 47-year-old construction worker died in Dooly County Tuesday morning after being hit on the interstate in a hit-and-run, according to Dooly County Coroner Brett Walls. It happened at around 5:50 a.m. on I-75 South at mile marker 109, Walls said. A construction company was working “through the night” replacing guard rails when one of their workers was struck by a vehicle, Walls said, but he says the person responsible then drove off from the scene.
Walls said the Georgia State Patrol is investigating the hit-and-run crash. Their Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is currently reviewing the evidence, including video footage, to try and identify the driver. In a post on Facebook, the Georgia State Patrol says they believe the man may have been struck by a semi-truck. They believe the semi-truck may have damaged their right-side headlight assembly. Walls says that the victim’s name is not available at this time, as they’re not sure if the next of kin has been notified. He says that the worker was employed by a Georgia Department of Transportation contractor. Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to call the Georgia State Patrol Troop H Radio Room at 229-386-3333. They ask anyone to ask to speak with a member of the Special Collision Reconstruction Team.
