KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A house was destroyed as a fire raged on while storms moved through the Kansas City area.
The Kansas City, Missouri, Fire Department says that around 8:50 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16, emergency crews were called to the area of E. 25th and Myrtle Ave. with reports of a fire.
When first responders arrived, they said they found smoke billowing from a 2-story home. An attack was started with several hoses as searches of the house came back all clear.
Firefighters noted that the only occupant of the home was able to make it to safety before they arrived. They were treated on the scene and released.
Just after 9:20 p.m., crews indicated that they were able to bring the blaze under control. The Red Cross has been called to help rehome the individual who lived in the house.
As of 9:30 p.m., firefighters remain on the scene as they work to salvage and overhaul the property. While heavy storms moved through the area during that time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
