FHP ends high-speed chase with PIT maneuver in Okaloosa County, 2 arrested

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. — A high-speed chase in Okaloosa County ended safely Wednesday morning after troopers used a PIT maneuver to stop a fleeing car.

The incident began at 8:15 a.m. when an unmarked patrol car attempted to stop a white Toyota Corolla on westbound I-10 near the 73-mile marker, according to FHP.

Troopers say motorists had reported the car for reckless driving, and noted it had an expired tag.

The driver, identified as 30-year-old Kyle Lee Bird, fled, reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour before exiting onto southbound State Road 285.

The pursuit continued until mile-marker 9, where the car turned onto Range Road 201. Troopers then executed the PIT maneuver, successfully bringing the chase to an end, according to FHP.

The car was occupied by three adults and a 2-year-old child.

Bird, the driver, was arrested and charged with reckless driving, aggravated fleeing to elude, child endangerment, felony possession of methamphetamine, and felony possession of a marijuana derivative.

The front right passenger, 31-year-old Marissa Lynn Brimlow, who is the child’s mother, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and felony violation of probation. The adult rear passenger was not charged.
