Family of Portland librarian killed by drunk driver awarded $20 million in damages


PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – The family of a librarian killed by a drunk driver in southeast Portland has been awarded $20 million by a Multnomah County jury.

In July 2023, 43-year-old Jeanie Diaz just got off work from the Belmont Library and was waiting for the bus.

A car driven by 48-year-old Kevin Scott crashed through the bus stop, killing Diaz.

Diaz is survived by her husband and two young daughters.

Scott pled guilty in March to several charges including criminal negligent homicide.

On Tuesday, the jury awarded $20 million against Scott in damages to Diaz’s family.
