Evansville murder suspect set to appear in court Wednesday

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – A suspect involved in the overdose death of Robert Merritt will make his court appearance Wednesday.

Officials say the suspect was identified as 33-year-old Deric West.

In June of 2023, officers responded to the 5000 block of Stringtown Road for a medical emergency and found that Merritt had overdosed.

Evansville Police say West helped supply the drugs that killed Merritt.

West is currently being held on a $100,000 bond.
