ELKINS — A traffic stop resulted in an arrest on a drug charge Tuesday.
Scott Arthur Albee, 62, is charged with possession with intent to deliver. He is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $25,000 cash only bond set by Randolph County Magistrate Ben Shepler.
According to the criminal complaint, prepared by Lt. C.G. Boatwright of the Elkins Police Department, on Tuesday at about 6:39 a.m., officers were informed about a silver Subaru allegedly driving recklessly coming into Elkins.
Boatwright writes that he located the vehicle and observed it “following the vehicle in front of it too closely and swerving, almost striking the guardrail in the turn past Youth Health traveling east.”
Boatwright conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of Vandalia Health’s Davis Medical Center’s emergency room, the complaint states.
Speaking to the driver, Albee, the officer “could smell a strong odor of burnt marijuana,” and he asked Albee to step out of the vehicle.
A search of the car revealed a “set of red in color digital scales with a crystal-like residue consistent with methamphetamine” and a “baggy of crystal-like substance consistent with methamphetamine,” the complaint states.
Officers seized Albee’s cellphone, on which “Albee had been speaking with individuals … about the distribution and sale of illegal substances,” Boatwright wrote.
