Driver dead after crashing into tanker truck in Glendale; road closed

GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) — A busy West Valley road is closed after a driver was killed in a collision involving a tanker truck on Friday morning.

Around 9 a.m., Glendale Police were called to the collision near Grand Avenue and Royal Palm Road, north of Northern Avenue. Investigators say a tanker truck was blocking three lanes of Grand Avenue as it was backing into a nearby business, with road cones set up in the area.

A small sedan then drove through the cones and crashed into the back of the tractor pulling the tanker. Bystanders broke the windows of the sedan and got the driver out. They attempted to perform CPR to save the driver as firefighters arrived on scene.

Peoria firefighters took over, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver has not been identified at this time.

Grand Avenue is closed from Northern Avenue to 75th Avenue. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
