Update
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The driver involved in a collision with a CMPD police officer has been charged.
Officials say Thomas Royster and the officer collided near Bojangles Coliseum on U-S 74 headed toward Uptown during the evening rush hour on Wednesday.
Both cars were heavily damaged.
Charges for Royster include driving with a revoked license.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer was put into an ambulance after she wrecked on a busy highway during the evening rush hour on Wednesday. The crash nearly ripped the front off her SUV. Our cameras were there as the officer was loaded into an ambulance. We also saw the driver of the other car involved in this wreck was in pretty bad shape. Their red car was also majorly damaged.
Medic has confirmed that one person was hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.
It happened just after 5PM near Bojangles Coliseum on US 74 headed toward Uptown. We contacted CMPD to find out how the officer is doing and what caused the wreck. We have not yet heard back from them.

CHARLOTTE, NC — A serious crash involving a CMPD SUV cruiser has shut down lanes on a major east Charlotte highway.
The accident happened on Independence Boulevard near Briar Creek Road. The crash happened before 6 p.m.
A red sedan and a CMPD SUV both appeared to have significant heavy front end damage.
Medic says they have a crew on scene.
