CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – A Charlotte County couple has a trial date set and faces the death penalty for the alleged murder of a man in September 2022.
According to court documents, Andrew Smith and Melissa Dymond-Demetrowitz were indicted in Charlotte County on June 8, 2023, for first-degree murder with a firearm, Conspiracy to commit first-degree murder with a firearm, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence.

They are accused of conspiring to and then murdering Shawn Patrick Armstrong sometime between September 8 and September 13, 2022. It is believed the pair lured Armstrong to a wooded area in southern Charlotte County, where they shot him to death and then took his body to a separate wooded area in Lee County and concealed it under palm fronds.
Investigators allege Smith purchased the gun used in the murder and that the pair drove Armstrong’s own truck when transporting his body to Lee County.
The next trial date for Smith and Dymond-Demetrowitz has been scheduled for February 10, 2026, and they are facing the death penalty.
Both are currently being held at the Charlotte County Jail without bond.
