Couple arrested for neglect of more than 250 animals, police say

ATLANTA, Ga. (WTOC/Gray News) – A couple in Georgia were arrested after over 250 animals were found in various stages of neglect inside their home.

On July 9, Nathaniel Levon Curington and Aimee Renee Curington of Trenton were arrested by the Dade County Sheriff’s office in coordination with the Georgia Department of Agriculture Law Enforcement Division, according to a statement by the GDA.

This arrest followed an investigation into alleged animal abuse at their residence on 181 Sells Lane.

According to the GDA, 256 animals in various states of neglect, including some who were deceased, were removed from the property and transported to a secondary location to receive veterinary care.

Both are being charged with seven felony counts of cruelty to animals.

The GDA has turned the case over to the Dade County District Attorney’s Office for additional charges and prosecution.

“This is one of the worst cases of animal abuse and neglect we have seen, and I am confident these individuals will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper said. “GDA Law Enforcement is sending a clear message that animal abuse has no place in the state of Georgia, and we are committed to working with local law enforcement and prosecutors to crack down on those who abuse animals in our state.”

Both Nathaniel and Aimee Curington are being held in the Dade County Jail.
