The Jerome County Coroner’s Office identified the man who went over the Snake River Canyon in a pickup truck on Sunday.
Richard Krause, 58, died on Sunday after a green Ford Ranger went over the canyon at the northwest scenic overlook off of southbound U.S. Highway 93, according to Dan Chatterton with the Jerome County Coroner’s Office.
The pickup went through a fence before falling into the canyon, according to an Idaho State Police trooper and Jerome County deputy at the scene on Sunday. The truck struck multiple surfaces before coming to rest on an embankment near the river.
At Centennial Park, law enforcement closed the boat launch to allow crews to access the crash site underneath the bridge. Recreators were able to access the river at the park, but the water surrounding the crash site was sectioned off.
Law enforcement temporarily closed the overlook while U.S. Highway 93 remained open.
The Jerome County Sheriff’s Office, Magic Valley Paramedics, the Twin Falls Police Department, the Twin Falls Fire Department and the Twin Falls County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash.
ISP is continuing to investigate the crash. Troopers are asking anyone with video or additional information about the incident to contact the Idaho State Police District 4 Office at 208-324-6000.
