Brian Mann, 36, was convicted on Thursday, after a jury deliberated for almost three hours over two days, WAFF reported. His wife, Hannah Mann, had been waiting for an answer in this case since 2022. “You know, of course, you want justice to be served, but also you don’t want to see someone go away for a long, long time that you’ve known and cared about for so long,” Hannah said. According to court documents, Brian Mann intentionally caused his wife to unknowingly ingest lead. He also took out several life insurance policies worth thousands of dollars in her name with himself listed as the beneficiary, according to WPXI. If she had died, Brian Mann would have been paid over $1 million from the life insurance policies. Hannah Mann testified that Brian Mann would not let her go to the hospital when she started experiencing symptoms. She finally went after her mother urged her to go. Felicia Hataway, a doctor at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, testified that when Hannah Mann came to the hospital, her lead levels were in the 80s. The safe level is near 10. Hannah Mann was temporarily paralyzed because any movement could have thrown off the pressure of her brain, according to Hataway. Hannah Mann’s colon also had to be irrigated to remove some of the lead. She said the only way that Hannah Mann could have gotten that much lead in her body is by ingesting it, according to WHNT. Hannah Mann still has high levels of lead in her body and health issues as a result, but she said she has forgiven Brian Mann. “I’ve forgiven him, and I just wish that he could change someday to change his ways,” she said. “You know, for his family and children.”
