Bodycam video released of Holcomb officer’s dramatic rescue

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The Holcomb Police Department has released body camera video showing Officer Kayla Van Doren helping rescue a trapped 10-year-old boy last month.

The video shows Van Doren calmly coaching the child to breathe while his leg remains pinned under a flatbed trailer.

“Okay, buddy, breathe, keep going, keep going. Keep breathing, buddy, keep breathing; do not pull your leg out; breathe, okay? Breathe, breathe, breathe, breathe,“ she says.

The child was eventually rescued after the boy’s father and Van Doren used a jack to free the boy. He was taken to get medical help. Officer Van Doren stayed with him until first responders arrived.

The footage highlights Van Doren’s courage and composure in a high-stress situation. She was honored earlier this month for her actions.
