The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office recovered a body from the Willamette River near the Steel Bridge on Sunday.
A bystander reported seeing the body near the Eastbank Esplanade around 11 a.m., Sunday, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies recovered the body and turned it over to the medical examiner, who will identify the person and pinpoint their cause of death, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said.
Authorities have recovered more than a dozen bodies from Portland area waterways this year, chiefly in late spring, when rising water temperatures can accelerate decomposition, causing bodies to rise to the surface.
