Armed jewelry store employees fend off robbers – Palo Alto Daily Post

A jewelry store in Sunnyvale was rammed by a vehicle in an attempted robbery Friday but armed employees fended off the culprits, police said.

The jeweler’s building, located in the 1000 block of East El Camino Real, was rammed about 3:12 p.m., police said.

“Armed employees from within the store confronted the suspects, prompting them to flee in separate vehicles before they were able to enter the store,” police said. “No shots were fired, no items or cash were taken, and fortunately, no injuries were reported.”

One of the vehicles used in the getaway was later found. It was determined to have been stolen, as was the vehicle that was used to ram the building and abandoned at the scene, police said.

On June 29, Sunnyvale cops responded to a report of a robbery in progress at a jewelry store, also located in the 1000 block of East El Camino Real. The robbers used a vehicle to break into the store, and then pulled out hammers to break display cases to steal jewelry.

The robbers fled in a number of waiting vehicles, leaving behind the stolen vehicle they used to break into the store.

During the response, officers located one of the fleeing robber’s vehicles and attempted to stop it. The driver wouldn’t stop, and a chase began. Officers later ended the chase in the “interest of public safety,” police said in a statement.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Eugene Rosette at (408) 730-7110.
