LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – A court document has detailed how a mother in Rio Bravo was allegedly orchestrating an armed robbery at an eight-liner business, also known as a maquinitas.
San Juanita Lee Guerra is still at large after allegedly coaching her son, Nathan Guerra, to commit a robbery at an eight-liner business.
According to court documents, there were WhatsApp messages exchanged between San Juanita Lee Guerra and her son outlining their plan for the armed robbery, as well as texts sent during the commission of the crime.
The robbery took place on June 11 at the 1200 block of Espejo Molina Rd. in Rio Bravo. Court documents indicate that while the robbery was occurring, Nathan Guerra was directed by his mother, who told him, “The business always has the money in a safe.”
Nathan Guerra and four other suspects fled the scene, getting into a nearby waiting car. Investigators found cash and a footprint while searching the crime scene.
Their findings led them to the home of Daniel Lopez, where authorities discovered latex gloves on the sidewalk, which were seen in surveillance video of the robbery.
Then, a tip directed investigators to the home of San Juanita Lee Guerra, where she called her son to meet with them. During questioning, Nathan Guerra allowed investigators to search his phone, which led to the discovery of the incriminating messages.
When deputies questioned Juanita Lee Guerra, she repeatedly said, “They only got away with $80, but there should’ve been $5,000.” Despite this, she maintained that she did not encourage her son.
Ultimately, she allegedly admitted to providing him with information on how to carry it out and expressed remorse for her actions.
Five teenagers were arrested in connection with the case, and Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar stated they stole over $1,400 in cash.
Anyone with information about the location of Juanita Lee Guerra is asked to call the Webb County Sheriff’s Office at (956) 415-2827.
