Alejandro Hernandez sentenced to life in prison for murder, abuse of a corpse

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A 33-year-old man will now spend the rest of his life in prison for killing and dismembering a Texas man three years ago.

Alejandro Rodriguez Hernandez was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of 48-year-old Alexis Azcuy.

Authorities say Hernandez killed Azcuy in Winkler County in 2022.

Investigators found Azcuy’s remains scattered across the Permian Basin and Lea County in New Mexico.

Law enforcement used cell phone data and DNA evidence to connect Hernandez to the crime.

He was arrested in Hobbs and brought back to Texas for the trial.

He was sentenced to life in prison for murder and received an additional 20-year sentence for abuse of a corpse.
