Air India crash report likely

A preliminary report into the recent
Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad is expected to be released today. The crash that took place on June 12 in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad claimed 241 lives.

Investigators, led by India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), have reportedly narrowed their focus to the aircraft’s fuel control switches. This comes after a
detailed analysis of the black box data and a simulation conducted by Boeing, the aircraft manufacturer. While mechanical failure has not been ruled out, sources indicate that the movement of these switches could have played a pivotal role in the moments leading up to the crash.

The Air India flight AI 171 was en route to London Gatwick when it crashed into a medical hostel complex shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad airport. The incident sparked widespread concern about aviation safety in India, and the preliminary report is highly anticipated as it may offer initial insights into the cause of the tragedy.

Trump to visit flood-ravaged Texas

US President Donald Trump will begin a tour of Texas to take stock of the situation in various regions after
flash floods caused massive devastation in the state. The visit follows a catastrophic Fourth of July weekend that saw torrential rains cause the Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country to swell rapidly, leading to widespread flooding. The rose from 14 feet (4.2 meters) to 29.5 feet (9 meters) within an hour on July 4.

The disaster has resulted in over 120 confirmed fatalities, including many children, with dozens of individuals still reported missing. Kerr County has been particularly hard-hit, with a significant number of the casualties occurring there, including at Camp Mystic, a girls’ summer camp.

El Chapo’s son expected to plead guilty to drug trafficking charges

Ovidio Guzman Lopez, son of notorious Mexican drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, is expected to plead guilty to US drug trafficking today. The hearing was scheduled for July 9, but it was moved to July 11 following a change of plea.

Ovidio, along with his brother Joaquin Guzman Lopez, are alleged to have run a powerful faction of the Sinaloa cartel, known as the “Chapitos,” or “little Chapos.” He was arrested in Mexico in 2023 after a dramatic and violent operation that resulted in numerous deaths. Later, he was extradited to the United States and
initially pleaded not guilty to charges of drug trafficking, money laundering, and firearms offenses in Chicago federal court.
