Man pleads guilty to murder in 2021 Cape Girardeau shooting

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – A man pleaded guilty to murder in connection with a deadly shooting in September 2021.

According to Cape Girardeau County prosecuting attorney Mark Welker, 21-year-old Mylik Starnes pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Tuesday, July 29.

He is set to be sentenced on Sept. 28.

Starnes was one of three people arrested in the shooting death of David Flores on September 23, 2021 in Cape Girardeau.

According to court documents, Flores was found shot in the kitchen of his home in the 1100 block of Giboney Street.

Investigators say a witness told them three men armed with guns entered the home and stole some drugs. As the men were leaving, a confrontation occurred between them and Flores, which led to the shooting.

Starnes was arrested in connection with the shooting a little less than a week later in Poplar Bluff.
