KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A grand jury indicted a Kansas City-area man accused of shooting his parents in a Northland motel room.
The indictment against Jason Christopher Sessoms, 19, was handed down July 22, 2025, according to online court records.
KCPD identified 42-year-old Marvin Sessoms and 38-year-old Maleeka Sessoms as the individuals shot and killed in a motel room at the Extended Stay at 4301 N. Corrington Avenue. Police were called to the motel at 3:45 a.m. on March 29 to follow up on a missing persons report.
Jason Sessoms was arrested in Van Buren County, Michigan, on March 29, 2025, after a home invasion attempt in the Township of Covert, Michigan.
According to a probable cause document, Jason told detectives he was trying to talk to his father when he realized both of his parents were asleep. His 10-year-old brother was also asleep and Jason said he couldn’t find some of his money and realized his mother spent it on the hotel room, which “disappointed him.” The document alleges he told police he crept up to his mother’s side of the bed and shot her, then shot his father when he woke up, asked what was happening and began to reach for his own gun.
Police said Jason’s 10-year-old brother told officers in Michigan that Jason had shot and killed their parents in a hotel room in Kansas City.
Sessoms was extradited from Michigan to Kansas City in June to face charges in the deaths of his parents.
Sessoms pleaded not guilty to the charges according to online court records.
He is scheduled to be in court again on September 11.
