Body found inside building in Japan belongs to a Taiwanese: Report

Tokyo, July 29 (CNA) A partially skeletonized body that was recently discovered by a member of the public in an old building in Japan has been identified by Japanese police as belonging to a Taiwanese national.

According to a Niigata Television Network 21 report on Tuesday, the body was discovered at 11:30 p.m. on May 24 inside a building that formerly housed a commercial facility in Myoko City, Niigata Prefecture.

A Japanese individual, who visited the location for a test-of-courage event, immediately reported the matter to the Myoko police following his discovery, the report said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a partially skeletonized body. An investigation later confirmed that the deceased was a man in his 40s from Taiwan who is believed to have died about a year ago.

The man had reportedly been visiting Japan for leisure, but after he failed to return to Taiwan, his family grew concerned and filed a missing persons report with local police in Taiwan.

Following weeks of investigation, police in Japan said there was no suspected foul play but added but they were continuing to investigate the cause of his death, the Niigata report said.

No further details about the case were provided.
