1 dead after ATV rollover crash in Althelstane


ATHELSTANE, Wisc. (WLUC) – One person is dead after an ATV crash in Marinette County, Wisconsin, on Saturday.

Marinette County Sheriff Randy Miller says at 5:30 p.m., Marinette County Dispatch received a report of a single ATV crash. The crash occurred on the ATV trail system off of Benson Lake Road in the Town of Athelstane. It was reported that the ATV had rolled over.

The investigation indicates that an ATV was traveling east down an ATV trail east of Benson Lake Road. Police say 55-year-old Michael W. Labree of Gilberts, Illinois, was driving.

Police say Labree failed to negotiate a curve and rolled over. He was ejected from the ATV and sustained fatal injuries. Police say he was wearing a helmet.

The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Also assisting at the scene were members of the Athelstane Fire Department, Silver Cliff Rescue and Aurora Medical Center – Bay Area EMS.
